Comparing Decisions

Think about the decisions that your character has had to make. Explain how you would have handled the same problems that they did. Would you have made the same choices your character did? Or would you have solved the problems in a different way. Explain your reasoning.

  1. When Crash decided to tackle his grandfather Scooter in a two hand touch football game, I think he made a bad decision. Scooter is old and this may have lead to him having a stroke the next day. If that was me in that situation I would have ran after Scooter and if I couldnt get to him then I would have stopped and just let him score. Instead of tackling an old man.

  2. In the story of ''Make Lemonade''...Jolly is one of the main characters in this story. Jolly has made alot of mistakes through out her daily life. For example; getting pregnant at the age of 14 years old...dropping out of highschool all the way to not paying her bills. If I was in her positiion I would of not get pregnant at 14 then I wouldn't have to drop out of highschool to take care of my kids. No I would of not made the same choices that Jolly had made.

  3. In my book "The Outsiders" two of the main characters get into a little trouble. When some socs are trying to jump them things go to far when Johnny fights back. Johnny ends up accidently killing a soc when he stabbed him trying to save Ponyboy. Johnny and Ponyboy decided to run away so they don't go to jail. I would probally end up doing the same thing because if you go straight to the cops you don't have any witnesses or someone to stick up for you. I know that you would get more time in jail if you get caught and you tried to run away. However, if you end up deciding to help other people out when your hiding it could really help in the long run if you decide to go to the cops.

  4. MISTFITS- The way that Booby flipped out on Addie! i wouldn't of changed a thing! She desurved to be yelled at! She is so ignorant! I don't even know why anyoine likes her! She is so ickey! and no one likes someone that is so darn pushy!!

  5. The book I am reading is "Make Lemonade" by Virginia Euwer Wolff.I disagree with alot of disisions my charecters have made.I think Jolly is a prime example. She disided to have kids at 14 and then she dropped out of school and kept the kids.If I was in that situation i would have stayed in school and found daycare and try to keep my kids out of the projects but instead she dropped out of school, distroyed her life and brung her kids to a development where you cant walk down the road without getting shot.I also disagree with the disicion Jolly made when she fought with LaVaghn about her not getting to do those special things mothers are sopose to do. i think its wrong because when LaVaghn wasnt there Jolly was not acting like a real mother. She was acting like a child herself. but she gets mad at LaVaghn when she potty trains and cares for Jeremy. He needed to be potty trained because 2 is to old to be in dipers. So i think Jolly should straiten up and start being a real mother to her kids.

  6. In my book "The Outsiders" Ponyboy and Johnny made the worst decision in their life, they ran away after they commited a murder. To me that was the wrong move esspecially if you Ponyboy, all he had to do is go home and relax since he did not preform the murder. But if I was Johnny I would have turned my self in because since your so young and you was just using self-defence so the cops would not put you in the pen, they would just make you do community service or something.

  7. When Lavaughn chose to continue babysitting for Jolly I was very dissapointed by her decision. Lavaughn was already getting low grades on her tests and really she did the job to get money for college. SO when Jolly could not afford to pay Lavaughn anymore and Lavaughn continued to go to Jolly's house i was appalled. It's like Lavaughn forgot what she got the job for. Now it's like she's volunteering. If i were Lavaughn i would have continued babysitting for Jolly out of kindness, however I would additionally try to keep my grades up and find another job if i could handle it. The decision Lavaughn made is not helping Lavaughn in a good way. It's hurting Lavaughn herself, her grades, and her relationship with her mom. If I was Lavaughn I would not make any decisions that made my mom unhappy or mad because it's not right to have a bad relationship with your parents. Another problem that i would have solved in a different way was when Jolly never told the cops about how she was sexually harassed by her boss. I mean if that was me i would be extremely upset and I would ahve told the authorities right away. People who do the wrong thing should not be left alone to be able to continue to do wrong. If Jolly had told the cops than maybe they would have helped her get another job because of what happened. My decision would have benefited Jolly better if she had done so.

  8. Sam I agree. Addie was so annoying at the time when she thought she was supposdly going out with Joe's crush. When Joe's crush actually likes Joe.

  9. Okay I am agreeing with Sam one more time but honestly it's the truth. Addie thinks and acts like she knows everything. So when Bobby flips, she desreved every single moment of it.

  10. In my book The Outsiders, Ponyboy is makeing lots of decsions. One of the main decsions is that he goes to the big rumble. Even though he knows he is smaller and may not do that good. It's crazy that He can actually fight good even though he just ran away with little food or anything. Althougth he does take some pretty cheap shots. pulln peoples hair and choking people!

I think that addie is the worst person in the book.she gets on everyones nerves and when she got yelled at i also think that she really deserved that.

  12. Heather and Sam,
I agree with both of you because she does act like shes the boss of everything!! She needs to ease up a little bit.

  13. One scene in my book (Outsiders) is where one of the characters dies. Dallas takes his death hard apparently, and decides to rob a grocery store because of it. He then runs from the cops and takes out an unloaded gun and gets shot. Then he dies.

Personally i wouldn't want to die if my best friend or someone i really cared about died. Sure i'd be sad and all, but i wouldn't want to stop living. Especially not at the age of 23.

  14. In my story make lemonade jolly doesent make decisions the way she wants to be.If i was jolly i would make the decisions by now like finding a job and paying lavaughn. Then if jolly did that then she can pay lavaughn then she can pay for college.

  15. In my book Make Lemonade, Jolly has had to make alot of decions in life. she has 2 kids Jeremy and Jilly and she is only 17 years old. some of her decions she has had to make sto go back to school or not i would go back to school just like she did if i were her so i could get a better education and get a better job so i can supprt the kids and beable to feed them and ket them wear clean clothes.

  16. In "Make Lemonade" Jolly is the character that always makes the big mistakes. She lost her job, dropped out of school, used to live in a cardboard box, has two kids at age 17, and can't pay for rent, has no time for her own kids because she is going back to school and can not pay her baby-sitter. I would choose exstremly different if I were Jolly. I never would have gotten pregnant in the first place. Never would I drop out of school, because I know learning and doing well in school is always my number one goal and always comes first. I would change the way I live my life and always put my kids before myself, because they deserve a good life. I hope they dont turn out like Jolly and seeing there mother making all these wrong choices may influence them to do so. I would do the best I could to make my kids happy and understand right from wrong unlike Jolly when she was younger. They deserve to have two parents that love them eternally.

  17. In my book the Outsiders, Johnny and Ponyboy are at a park when a carful of Socs show up. They all start fighting and Johnny ends up killing one. Iwould never go as extreme as killing someone. For example, as much as I hate Miley Cyrus and wish she didn't live on this planet, I would never like track her down and kill her.

  18. The decisions that my main characters made i would do some of them diffrently but most of them the same. Like Darry decided to drop out of school to get a job so that he could support him and and Ponyboy and Sodapop.I would do the same thing that Soda did too because he droped out of school so he could have money to help Darry out.

  19. When jonnhy dies in the outsiders dally took his death pretty hard and got killed by the police like he wanted. the way i would have handeld the situation if Iwas dally is to first tell every one about his death and then just run away for a littel bit instead of get my self killed on purpouse.

  20. In my book Mattie decides to return home while sick instead of staying in the hospital. i probably would have stayed, as she was seriously sick and needed care. There was nothing for her at home as her mom was sick and her friend was caring for her.

  21. In my stoy Fever the main character Mattie has made some very good decisions but she has also made some very bad, one of the worst decisions that she has made throughout the whole story was she left the window open because it was a hot summer night and it ended with her grandfather dieing because two robbers broke into the house causing the grandfather to be beaten to death.

I definatly would have left the window closed and delt with the heat rather than cause my grandfather to be killed.

  22. In my book "The Outsiders" one of the charatcers, Johnny stabbed one of the Socs. If I was in that situtaion I would have ran over to the Soc that was drowning Ponyboy and got him off him and then ran away. If I would have done this I would not have killed a kid and we would been safe.

  23. A.J. I agree I would have kept the window closed if I knew there were robbers and looters out in the street.

  26. The book I am reading is “Make Lemonade”. The main characters name is LaVaughn. She has had to make many decisions. One of the most important decisions she makes is making the decision if she wants to be Jolly’s baby-sitter or not. She chose that she should be her baby-sitter. If it was me in this situation, I believe I would of done the same thing. I mean, after seeing what kind of place jolly lives in and how much help she needs, I just couldn’t of turned away.

  27. In the story Slam by Wakter Dean Myers the main character of the story is ovbiously Slam but the decisions he makes are sometimes a little shaky. Slam decides to play basketball than to apply himself in school which could turn out to be a problem. Slam has conflicts even during school when he is thinking about his girl Mtisha. I think that he should focus more on school than girls and making the winning basket in the game. The best decision I think that Slam has made is to get Mtisha to tutor him after school so that he can resolve is problems with Mtisha and he can also learn at the same time. The only problem is that maybe during the study session he is so caught up in looking at Mtisha he cant get hooked in his studies

  28. J. Adams;

I agree with you that what they could have done was better than what they did do. In no way would two kids who were scared half to death because anyone who murders is sent to the chair at that time period, would have enough common sense to say, "It was self-defense and I'm too young to go to jail!" It's just frightening to kill anyone and it makes people lose their nerves.

  29. In my book "Holes", the main character Stanley made the desicion to go look for Zero. Once he found Zero, even though they were obviosly not in any condition to do intense traveling without any food or water. I would've went back to look for Zero, but once I found him I would bring him and return to camp. I can handle the pubnishments he'd get for going back, but there's 100% chance he's going to die without water in the dessert.

  30. In The Hunger Games, Katniss has decided to risk her life to save the life of dying Peeta and finding medicine for him at the Cornucopia. I think that it was a good choice on her part and since she can't live without knowing Peeta is slowly losing life. But I would have done the same thing except I maybe stay back and let all the other tributes take their needed supplies unless they took mine, then I would hunt them down.

  31. In my book "Money Hungry" my charaters mother starts to yell at here because she thinks that Raspberry stole money from her best friends granfather. She does not steal the money but she trys to explain it her mother but her mother will not let jhere talk. What I would do in this confict is most likely yell back until my mother listens to me and believes me. If my mother does not believe me I just wait for her to stop yelling at me and then tell her what had really happen.

  32. In my book, "The Hunger Games", the main character, Katniss, at one point has to get medicine for her partner in the arena. She runs into the area where it was at because it was in a bag so small someone else could of grabbed it, but by doing that, she almost got killed by another tribute. I would of hidden somewhere near by and wait for the others to come first, then shoot them with the bow. I would of done this because if she had died then her partner would die too.

  33. I agree with Barndon Y. because I wouldn't tackle my grandfather when playing football, especially after he recovered after a stroke. I sure hope both grandfathers are well.

  34. a decision that rassberry from money hungry had to make was wether or not to give the money back. she stole from her friend ja'nae but she gave it back. me iwouldnt have stole to begin with but if i did i would have givin it back.

  35. When MAttie decided to help out Nell it was very touching, but probually not the same decition i would make. Let me explain. Dont get me wronge, i love children, but i hate getting sick and i hate, hate, hate, hate vomet!! If theres any chance of me getting sick or geting sick on,you better know ill be out of there in a second. I woulld have been more than happy to have helped Nell, but as soon as she got sick, i would be out.

  36. I agree with brandon, why would he have tackled his grandfather? Thats crazy, hpofully hes alright. If i did that to my grandfather, i would have more than one privlege taken away, i would be busted...HELP ME would be my last words.

  37. on my book,FEVER 1793 our character Matilda or Mattie is confronted by intruders and she is attacked while her grandfather slept upstairs in the coffee house. i would call for him or at least slept with a weapon next to my because sge knew that the neighborhood became aggressive

  38. I agree with Samantha B. when Bobby finaly yelled at Addie I was so glad. I was getting tired of constantly hearing how she took control and left nothing to the others. The only thing that I would of liked that scene to happen sooner in the book rather than later.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Alexis P., I agree, I would not give up my health either if it means I'll die. I bet it was a nice thing that mattie help Nell, but was it worth it if the whole point of the story is not to get sick? This would actually be a hard decision for people who care for Nell and their own health.

  40. I agree, Sam, I don't think suicide is the way to go when a friend dies. First of all, it doesn't help make anything better, and second, if all of his friends were like him, they would kill themselves and that's just a terrible way to die.

  41. When Derek lost Slam's camera, Slam started laughing that Derek lost his camera. He then went to look for it. If I were Slam, I would have made Derek go look for it. Derek lost it. He should be the one to search for it. I would tell him to go look at his friend's house.
